Mini Review: When Dimple Met Rishi By Sandhya Menon

Dimple Shah has it all figured out. With graduation behind her, she’s more than ready for a break from her family, from Mamma’s inexplicable obsession with her finding the “Ideal Indian Husband.” Ugh. Dimple knows they must respect her principles on some level, though. If they truly believed she needed a husband right now, they wouldn’t have paid for her to attend a summer program for aspiring web developers…right? Rishi Patel is a hopeless romantic. So when his parents tell him that his future wife will be attending the same summer program as him—wherein he’ll have to woo her—he’s totally on board. Because as silly as it sounds to most people in his life, Rishi wants to be arranged, believes in the power of tradition, stability, and being a part of something much bigger than himself. The Shahs and Patels didn’t mean to start turning the wheels on this “suggested arrangement” so early in their children’s lives, but when they noticed them both gravitate toward the same summer program, they figured, Why not? Dimple and Rishi may think they have each other figured out. But when opposites clash, love works hard to prove itself in the most unexpected ways.

Rating: 4 stars (I honestly don’t know why I didn’t give it a 5)

This book is just perfect. Let’s talk about Dimple she’s smart and driven. As someone who just graduated High School she knows exactly where she wants her life to go and as an adult I still have no idea where I’m headed. She wants to be more than what her parents and culture demand. And then there is Rishi. He’s sweet and just as smart but where Dimple wants to be free of her culture he embraces it. He is willing to sacrifice what he truly wants to do with his life in order to make his parents proud.

Give me a book with nerdy characters who are sweet and totally love each other and I am so down. I will love it. There are plenty of dorky socially awkward moments which is another favorite of mine.

I’m just saying if the first guy who spoke to me said “Hello, my future wife” I would probably through something and run away too. Nothing about that is okay. I don’t know you and it’s not going to make me want to get to know you.

I just loved watching Dimple and Rishi not only get to know each other but discover more about their selves in the process. And I can’t forget to mention that I love Ashish too.

If you love YA Contemporary you NEED to read this you won’t regret it.
